Books and technology. With these two resources, we aspire to contribute to an environmentally sustainable planet. BookUnit envisions a world where students conveniently sell and buy their used books to each other, sensibly reducing the amount of paper waste and at the same time cutting their expenses. In this world, students build a community where they can rely on each other, because they are each other’s customers as well as each other’s providers. This implies that our success is based on our customer’s success. Hence, our vision is for a world where m-commerce, empowered by people and technology, is the key to a better and greener environment.
WHAT WE DO
Every academic year, thousands of students purchase new books and store their old ones far away. This not only implies an enormous cost, it's also very unfortunate for the environment. Despite the existence of second-hand book sites and faculty book sales, students still seem to save themselves the trouble and buy their books new in store.
That’s where BookUnit makes the difference. Our online app not only offers students the convenience to sell and buy used books at any time, at any place, but it also enables them to view the book beforehand. How? WHO WE ARE
We’re a Ghent-based start-up with a straightforward mission: finding used student books a new owner. Three enthusiastic students with a heart for the environment and a mind for business, these are the people behind this revolutionary application. Coming from a linguistics and literature background and currently studying Multilingual Business Communication, our team might seem quite homogeneous. Nevertheless, we complement each other like the chapters of a book.
Chapter one is Charlotte Leroy, whom you can describe as the manager of the team, in charge of plotting the schedules and organizing the tasks. She offers excellent time management skills, is creative in mind and likes playing around with numbers. After chapter one comes chapter two, similar in name and looks, but different in skills. Charlotte Stevens provides the team with creative ideas, with an eye for detail and a nose for future orientation. She works fast and efficiently and keeps an open mind. Our last chapter is the one moulding the entire organization in a smooth and polished lay-out. Egon Buyck is responsible for humour and testosterone in BookUnit’s team. He is extremely organized, always positive and stress is a word absent in his vocabulary. As a whole, our story can be summarized in three words: ambition, motivation and perseverance.
